The clay that shapes all our products is sourced from southwestern Finland, specifically from the village of Kultela in Somero and the fields of Ojala.

Finland, with its majestic forests and numerous lakes, also harbors ancient secrets—namely, valuable clay deposits. The history of Finnish clay soil extends back thousands of years, having been shaped by the last ice age which sculpted our country’s topography and left behind rich clay fields. Nature has provided the raw materials for design and crafts for centuries.

The field in Ojala, where UDUMBARA’s clay originates, exemplifies sustainable local resource use. Nestled in an idyllic rural landscape, this clay is brimming with potential that I harness in my work as a designer and craftsman. The process of extracting and transforming this clay into beautiful pots requires both skill and respect for the material.

<iframe loading="lazy" title="Conscious ceramic practices; local raw materials - product transparency.
